Busy August

Wow! When I started this I thought I would write every day, but so goes the best made plans. I had a very busy August. I entered my very first floral contest. The results will be published in October's issue Florist Review magazine. I was terrified to enter but once I got going it was very exciting. This was a national contest with a 4 day vacation as the winning prize. Wish me luck because I still don't know if I won.

Was busy with lots of new clients also, which is a good thing. Working on getting up a new website and also revamping my old one for Floral Designs by Meta, maybe by Christmas they will both be the way I want them. Oh well.

Let's talk about the event planning and floral design business. Some people are not real sure when planning an event what or who they will need to help, so below is a little list that might help to determine if you need a florist or a floral designer to help.

A Florist

1.Generally operates from a storefront where they sells everyday flowers in addition to special occasion flowers
2.Usually will make and deliver centerpieces, bouquets and wedding party flowers.

A Floral Designer

1.Works out of a studio and specializes solely on events
2.Is involved in various aspects of the wedding including things such as custom lighting, linens, rental items, furniture and other decorative pieces to create your wedding and reception’s overall mood, in addition to creating unique centerpieces and bouquets for your special day

Your choice. It depends on what your individual needs and budget are.

Below are photos of an August wedding that we did also. We were the floral designers and coordinators for this wedding. we provided the linens and decorations for the ceremony and reception in addition to conducting the rehearsal and coordinating the wedding day activities.

getting Started

This is my first blog. I always have some many thoughts about the work that I do so I thought a blog might be the place to expresse those thoughts about this crazy industry I am in.

I am in the wedding and events industry. I create wedding dreams by decorating venues and creating floral arrangements. We also do corporate events. I say crazy industry because there is never a dull moment, even with the most uneventful occasion there is always something new to learn or do.

We have done some really cool events. The photo above was at a recent event at the Fairmont hotel. We created the altar and did the floral arrangements down the aisle.

More next time, just wanted to get something out there to get started.
